Lampwork is the title given to the process of making handcrafted glass beads. In ancient times a glass bead maker would sit in front of oil lamps and melt glass into beads, a pianstakingly slow process. That is where the phrase comes from.
How do you make a glass bead? TOP
I melt different colored glass rods in an oxygen/propane torch and wrap the glass around a steel manderal. I decorate the bead by using smaller handpulled peices of glass called stringers.
